Class photo     Beginning in April, we're proud to offer two new opportunities for our students. On Tuesday evenings at 6:45, Tahia will teach two choreographies designed for new Level II students. On Saturdays at noon, we will now offer a Level I course. This class will be taught on a rotating basis by several instructors. See Shadia or any of the instructors for additional information.

Oktoberfest 2009     The Tulsa Folkloric Dance Theater has a great show lined up for this year's Oktoberfest! In addition to perennial favorites the Purple Roses of Cairo, The Tribal Roses, and the Nawar Tribe, a special guest will take the stage both Friday and Saturday evenings. Sensei Pacer will combine Hip Hop dance style and martial arts for a truly unique performance. He'll dance to the music of the Ghawazee Mafia, who will also perform live for several other dance numbers. Come out and see the shows, 6:00 p.m. Friday and 5:45 p.m. Saturday in Das Ess Zelt!

Marisa dances at the Nara Cafe     The weekend is here again and Saturday night will be another fun night of music and dance at the Nara Cafe. This Saturday, October 3rd, Marisa & Karima (aka Kristen) will be the featured dancers at Nara Cafe. The first show starts at 10:00 p.m. If you are wanting something fun and different to do this Saturday night, come watch the show and support your sister dancers. Along with our lovely dancers, Nara Cafe offers a variety of Middle Eastern food, and a variety of flavors of shisha to smoke in a hookah. It's a great way to spend a Saturday night and a chance to experience something different. The Hibiscus Bar & Grill in Tulsa     On Saturday, August 29, 2009 the dancers of the Shadia Dahlal Bellydance Academy will be performing at the Hibiscus Caribbean Bar and Grill located at 3316 S. Peoria Avenue in Tulsa. Performing that night will be members of the Purple Roses of Cairo and the Nawar Tribe. This special performance is to celebrate the first anniversary of the Hibiscus.
    Along with wonderful entertainment, the Hibiscus offers a variety of dishes that emphasize food from Jamaica and the West Indies to bring a little something different to Tulsa.

Tahia begins teaching the Hoop Chickz class in June     Come and find your center, at the center of our hoops! Enjoy the spinning, spiraling fun that is hooping.
    Hooping and dance are taught together for a holistic fitness experience called hoopdance. Students will work with adult sized hoops to learn how to hoop on the torso, arms, legs and off body.
    Hoopdance incorporates arcs, spins and jumps to bring a fun-feel good perspective to fitness!
    Bring your water and towel, you’ll be sweatin’ in no time!




The Purple Roses of Cairo Dance Company

    Shadia Dahlal formed the PURPLE ROSES OF CAIRO, a Middle Eastern dance company, in the spring of 1996. They originally started as a group of students that performed American Tribal style. Over the years, they incorporated authentic Egyptian, Arabic and Turkish styles.
    The Purple Roses have set the standard for professional Middle Eastern dance companies in northeastern Oklahoma. No other dance company in the area has received the critical acclaim and public accolades accorded the ROSES in the last few years.
    Shadia Dahlal and the Purple Roses of Cairo can be booked for any family-oriented event, such as weddings, birthdays, or other parties. They also perform at festivals (Mayfest, Oktoberfest, etc.) and Renaissance Fairs.

The Tulsa Folkloric Dance Theater

    The Tulsa Folkloric Dance Theater was founded in 2005 to serve the community as a conduit for learning about the beauty and meaning inherent in dances from around the world.
    TFDT officially received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in 2009. The organization holds fundraising events and accepts contributions from patrons of the arts.
    TFDT's main production is an annual show at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center during the SummerStage festival.
